A live African penguin named Disco attended the event, and the students were able to get a close-up look at the bird feeding while learning about the species.
The program was funded with a generous grant from the Central Cambria Education Foundation (CCEF), an organization that fills educational and funding gaps by supporting innovation, engaging communities and changing lives for the Central Cambria School District. "The Central Cambria Education Foundation is proud to fund programs such as the National Aviary Penguin Program for the students of the Central Cambria School District,” said Curt Mellott, Director of CCEF. “Witnessing the energy and enthusiasm of these elementary school students was rewarding for both those in attendance from the Foundation and myself. The Foundation thanks Jenn Mesoras, principal at the Cambria Elementary School, and Christine Long, principal at Jackson Elementary for their involvement.
